2297 - City of Leicester School and Sixth Form Centre - Academy of Business and Management

Leicester

The Academy of Business and Management at the City of Leicester College currently incorporates an Advanced Level Cambridge Pre-U Business and Management qualification, alongside a personal timetable of other Advanced level subjects. Students taking part in this course are specially selected for their business expertise, motivation and attitude. They are invited to attend an open evening, before completing an application letter and then having a challenging interview. Business Champions are needed to support the programme by becoming Business Mentors. Each academy student has a mentor who works alongside them. Your participation as a mentor allows the student following this course to learn first hand how businesses operate and for you to pass on your knowledge and experience. By being a Business Mentor you are helping to create highly talented employees of the future fill increasingly complex roles in business and management.

Throughout the course the Mentor will act as a role model, critical friend and advisor. Mentors meet their student regularly over the two years, each meeting may last approximately an hour (but this is flexible) these meetings can take place at the college or the Mentor's workplace or sometimes less formally using other pre-agreed communications technology. Mentors can be any employee with some management responsibility right up to the MD. Each relationship is as individual as the people involved, and all will have different, but equally valid, experiences of the world of work to share. Students take part in a six-week paid internship, based on a standard working week in a real operating environment, aiming to use the skills and knowledge the student has learned in College.

If you think that you would like to become a Business Mentor and help to shape the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, then please contact Danielle on 0115 9247412, or email danielle.davis@bitc.org.uk
