2354 - The LeicestHERday Trust - GreenSTEM Mentors

Leicestershire

The LeicestHERday Trust is an umbrella organisation formed to give an equal voice to all women and enhance the community at large by enhancing women's life experiences.  It is a strategic organisation delivering projects and programmes across the entire sub region of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

GreenSTEM is a new initiative which will provide networking, training and support for unemployed female STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) graduates while paying them a small salary. It will encourage them to develop innovative business ideas for green-themed products and services using their STEM education.  The programme will run during 2010 and will develop the skills and confidence of participants, terminating in a celebration during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 when the entrepreneurs will compete for the title "GreenSTEM Entrepreneur 2011" and a £500 prize.

The Trust require a Business Champion to help guide the project and a number of Champions to help mentor and guide the GreenSTEM entrepreneurs as they develop their green business concepts.  Ideally they would like Business Champions who have experience of starting a successful green business. Business Champions with any environmental experience would also be welcome, as would any entrepreneurial experience. Any business experience in product development and/or marketing would also be useful.  It is anticipated that Mentors will meet with the entrepreneurs for 3 hours per month for the first 3 months, followed by 2 or 3 meetings during the remainder of the project; these estimates are flexible.  If you are interested in supporting, please contact Danielle on 0115 9247412, or email danielle.davis@bitc.org.uk
